The mission of the Urban Statistics Centre is to work on the development of an urban statistics system, in particular by initiating research, developing methodology, and coordinating activities related to large cities. The Centre identifies the actual and potential demand for information on cities, determines the degree of information coverage in public statistics sources, and explores the possibilities of utilizing other sources that could feed the information resources on cities. An important task of the Centre is to formulate new methodological proposals regarding the statistical observation of cities and to conduct methodological work related to the delimitation and statistical surveying of areas that do not coincide with the country's administrative division. The Centre utilizes spatial econometrics tools in statistical research on:
- intra-urban differentiation,
- income stratification,
- demographic aging,
- mobility.
The Urban Statistics Centre (OSM) cooperates with the Association of Polish Cities, municipal associations, scientific institutions, and organizations involved in urban monitoring (EUROSTAT).
The 'Urban Statistics Center - 25 Years' brochure describes 25 years of the Center's operations, including completed projects, developed products, the participation of the center's staff in conferences, and the changing team of the center over the years.
